Position Overview
The Facilities Chief Engineer balances day-to-day hands-on engineering oversight with planning, coordination, and supervision responsibilities to ensure preventive maintenance programs, reactive service requests, and tenant support activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with tenant requirements and operational standards.
This role provides direct leadership of tenant-dedicated engineering staff and is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, and performance of tenant building systems within a Class A office environment.
Responsibilities
Plan, direct, and oversee all tenant preventive and reactive maintenance activities across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and specialty systems.
Supervise, train, and mentor tenant building engineers to ensure consistent coverage, technical competency, and service quality.
Ensure preventive maintenance tasks are completed in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, regulatory requirements, and internal standards.
Coordinate tenant engineering activities with base building operations to maintain system integration and avoid conflicts.
Respond to and manage critical tenant engineering issues, including after-hours and emergency situations.
Utilize CMMS and inspection data to identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for operational improvement.
Qualifications
Seven (7) or more years of building engineering or facilities experience.
Demonstrated supervisory experience in a commercial facilities environment.
Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical certifications and licenses preferred.

This highly visible, tenant-facing role supports the overall workplace experience by ensuring shared spaces, meeting areas, and amenities meet Class A presentation and service standards.
Responsibilities
Maintain a visible on-floor presence to support tenant experience and identify service needs in real time.
Inspect restrooms, locker rooms, pantries, and amenity spaces; restock consumables and report deficiencies.
Inspect conference rooms and meeting spaces prior to scheduled use to ensure cleanliness, setup, and readiness.
Engage with key tenant contacts to confirm satisfaction and gather informal feedback.
Coordinate service needs with engineering, janitorial, security, and management teams.
Document service activities, observations, and tenant feedback for reporting and improvement.
Qualifications
Strong customer service skills and professional presence.
Comfort interacting with executive-level tenants and guests.
Ability to work independently and proactively in a dynamic environment.
Education
