Döner Brös Food Truck to Open First Restaurant at Nine East 33rd
The popular Döner Brös food truck will expand to its first brick and mortar location at the Nine East 33rd student apartment building, according to Armada Hoffler Properties and Beatty Development Group in a joint announcement made today. Located in Charles Village across from the campus of Johns Hopkins University, Nine East 33rd has built a reputation for its combination of local favorite stores and restaurants, mixed with exciting new concepts. Leasing 1,126 square feet of space along St. Paul Street, Döner Brös will offer the same kebabs, wraps, salads, and fries that have made them a hit throughout Baltimore, with a few new twists thrown in for long-time fans.
The Döner Brös story begins in September of 2015, when Alex Politsch and Steven Banks went to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, where they both fell in love with the world famous Döner Kebab. Upon their return, they went back to their daily routines but quickly realized that their mission was to bring the world’s most popular take-away food to the U.S. After a few years, a few more “research trips” to Europe, and several test runs, Döner Brös was born. Within a few months, Döner Brös quickly grew to become one of the most popular food trucks in Baltimore and had such high demand that less than a year later, the two friends decided to open their first Döner Brös location.
“Johns Hopkins University was always a home run for the food truck so it was only natural for us to open our first store here,” said Steven Banks, co-founder of Döner Brös. “We are excited to bring the world's most popular fast-casual food concept to the heart of Charles Village, adding another unique cultural option to the already eclectic and dynamic neighborhood!”
The signing of Döner Brös brings the retail leasing component of Nine East 33rd to near completion. With a robust mix of new and familiar tenants in place, Nine East 33rd reflects the diverse environment of Johns Hopkins University and the larger Charles Village community. Döner Brös will join the already open Bird in Hand, honeygrow, CVS Pharmacy, Race Pace Bicycles, THB Bagels & Deli, and PekoPeko Ramen, as well as the just-opened Red Star Bar & Grill.
